[Austin, Texas] Melissa: College Graduation

There is nobody quite like Melissa. She is graduating from UT with a double-major in Radio-Television-Film and Journalism, but what she really specializes in is animation.

For her graduation portraits, she wanted photos that would be funky, cool, and a little bit weird – which is to say, in the spirit of Austin. She chose a vintage Nicole Miller dress and brought along her thrifted leather suitcase. Rightly so, because this girl is going places.

[Stanley, Hong Kong] Mother & Daughters

When my friend Steve’s sister came in town from London, we set up a time for pictures of her two little girls on the beach. When the day arrived, it was pouring down rain, so I bought them colorful rainboots and a rainbow umbrella to match their cute swimsuits.

[Austin, Texas] Jackie & Jory: Engagement

Jory is one of my oldest friends, and I couldn’t wait to photograph him with his sweet fiance, Jackie. She works with him at their family-owned natural soapmaking business. These two lovebirds are getting hitched in Hawaii next March!

[Austin, Texas] Ashley & Remmy: Wedding

Ashley and I have been best friends for 17 years – since we were ten years old, when I moved in next door to her white house in Westlake. I was able to share this day with her by standing by her side as Maid of Honor. But that still didn’t stop me from snapping a few shots.

          [Xi'an China] Chinese New Years

I spent Chinese New Years in the most remote, removed place you can imagine. The city of Meijian doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page, let alone a leaf out of Lonely Planet. My best friend in China, Li Rong, invited me to stay with her and her family.

And a rare photograph of the photographer:
